Almost intact button or weight found in 1937-1938 during the excavation of the “Mycenaean Fountain” on the north slope of the Acropolis. Its body is conical with a narrow, tubular projection at one end.

Many suggestions have been put forward with reference to the use of objects of this type. They may have been buttons, necklace beads or spindle whorls. They could also have been weights sewn along the hem of women’s clothes or curtains to keep them in place.
